FAQ - Answerly
What is Answerly?Answerly is a free service where real people research your questions and deliver answers to your email inbox, typically in minutes.
You say Answerly is free. What is the catch?
No catch. Really. Answerly is 100% free and we will never charge you to ask questions on Answerly. We make money from advertising that helps us cover the costs related to answering your questions. We may also provide optional fee-based premium services in the future, but our basic service will always remain free.
What questions can I ask?
You are free to ask any questions you like. We have built in filters that may prevent you from asking certain questions, like those that include profanity or are impossible to answer (unfortunately, Answerly Operators don't know the name of the person you are going to marry or what color hair you have). We want Answerly to be a place where everyone feels comfortable asking questions, so we reserve the right to remove any questions that we feel are inappropriate for any reason, so please don't be mad at us if we decide to delete your question.
Also, keep in mind that your questions are being answered by real people, so try to use polite language when asking sensitive questions about topics that others may controversial or offensive. Again, we realize that everyone has a different standard about what is and isn't appropriate for polite conversation, so we'll step in and edit or remove questions if we see fit.
Finally, we wrote this FAQ and created a contact form so that you could get all your questions about Answerly answered. Please don't ask the Answerly Operators specific questions about Answerly. If there is something that isn't addressed in our FAQ, feel free to use our contact form and we will respond as quickly as possible.
When and how will I get my answers?
It usually takes a few minutes for our Answerly Operators to provide one or more answers to your question. Sometimes it can take longer, particularly if your question is very complex or if our operators are very busy.
Once your question has been answered, you will receive a notification email from us with a link back to the results page where all the answers to your question will be listed.
What information will my answers include?
Every question that you ask will get its own answer results page. The answer results page will include:
- All the answers your question has received
- Links to any relevant websites that may provide you with more detailed information
- Where appropriate, links to relevant products on Amazon.com that may help answer your question or solve your problem
- Targeted ads from advertisers that may provide services which could be helpful to you based off of your question
Can I ask follow up questions?
Yes and no. You can feel free to ask a follow up question, but there is no guarantee that the same Answerly Operator that answered your first question will be answering your second one. So, it is a good idea to treat follow up questions as completely new ones. That is, make sure that you include any context that will make the question answerable for a new Answerly Operator. Asking a follow up question like “What do you mean by that?” will never get you a good follow up answer.
I haven't received an answer yet. Should I ask my question a second time?
Please be patient with your answers. Our Answerly Operators are usually able to deliver one or more answers to your question in minutes. But some questions that are very complex or that are asked during certain times of the day may take longer to answer. Asking the same question three times in a row within a 30 second period will definitely not get you questions any faster.
Why was my question removed?
We sometimes remove questions that we feel are inappropriate for a number of other reasons. If your question is removed, please don't take it personally! If you have questions about why we removed your question, please submit a request through our contact form and we will respond to you as quickly as possible.
Answerly seems like a great place to promote my business. Can I ask a bunch of questions as a way to get people to visit my website?
Plain and simple- no. Answerly is a resource for people to find answers to questions. It is not meant to be a promotional tool and if you treat it as such we will remove your questions and delete your account. Sorry if this sounds harsh, but we want to make sure that we are very clear about how Answerly can and can't be used.
Who is answering my questions?
There are two types of people that answer questions on Answerly.
The first group of answerers are Answerly Operators. These folks may or may not be experts in the specific subject matter that you are asking about, but they are great at finding information online. Answerly Operators are members of Amazon's Mechanical Turk service (also know as MTurk).
The second group of answerers are Answerly Special Ops (we also call them Special Ops or ASOs for short). Special Ops are Answerly Operators who have a demonstrated expertise in answering certain types of questions. Depending on the type of information you are asking about, your question may be routed to an ASO. Answers from ASOs are denoted on the answer page for your question with the distinctive "Special Ops" logo.
Our Answerly Operators and ASOs are NOT psychics. It's important to remember that they can't read your mind and that quality of the answer you receive back usually depends on the quality of your question. Poorly worded or vague questions will probably result in answers that you are not very happy with. So, please take an extra moment.
